Perks Deconstruction – Denver, Colorado

Perks Deconstruction is a Denver-based company that provides deconstruction and demolition services to allow homeowners and contractors the ability to salvage, donate, and recycle as many materials as possible. In Colorado, approximately 30 to 40 percent of what makes it to landfills is construction and demolition waste, and deconstruction offers a more sustainable approach to demolition by giving a second life to materials that would otherwise be discarded. Perks Deconstruction provides services to residents and businesses in Denver, Boulder, and Golden, keeping valuable material out of Front Range landfills.

In 2021, Perks Deconstruction received a $124,900 FRWD grant to open Denver’s first deconstruction warehouse, where contractors, homeowners, renovators, and DIYers can purchase lumber, timbers, and hardwood flooring that has been carefully salvaged and reclaimed from local deconstruction sites. The grant money helped the company purchase the equipment necessary to make their dream become a reality: a forklift, two 14-yard dumpsters, a pallet jack with a scale, banding equipment, and two dust extractors.

Since moving into the warehouse, Perks Deconstruction has diverted 1,390 tons of material that was destined for Front Range landfills. Owner and Founder Anna Perks says material diversion is not the only goal of the project – she is also helping to support the local economy and has hired two full time employees that receive full benefits. Through this project, Anna is also hoping to support and grow the local reuse culture and is reminding people that construction and demolition waste can be turned into a resource and given a new life.
